SPOTLIGHT ON

THE STYLE COLLECTIVE - Em Smyth

We’re not sure if you got the style klaxon, but we’ve launched a new, contemporary designer section in our shop where you can find all the coolest plus size brands. To celebrate the launch, we hooked up with three incredibly stylish bloggers for a fun-filled shoot. One of those bloggers was the ridiculously lovely Em from Terrible Tumbles.

A modern classic: Em borrows from the past and picks the best of the present to make her utterly chic, feminine style what it is. We love her gorgeous red hair, her always-on-point sixties-inspired makeup and her super-long legs, and wanted to see her rock all the autumn/winter styles for our trend-led brands.

How would you describe your style?

My style is classic and simple, always with a nod to the vintage. As time goes on I’m becoming more comfortable with the casual but it doesn’t come naturally.

What is your go to outfit? What would you never wear?

My go-to outfit will always be a printed midi dress, ankle boots and a red lip. I don’t think you’ll ever see me in a tracksuit which is funny because I’m well into lazy pyjama style jumpsuits but sports casual is a step too far for me right now.

What are you most looking forward to wearing this season?

I can’t wait to get back into my knee boots and long coats and I adore an autumnal colourway - berry reds, emerald greens and rusty oranges.

Any secret styling tips or general advice to share?

If, like me, you’re a taller woman, stop worrying about a slightly shorter trouser length. A cropped trouser with ankle boots is a really good way to look chic and on trend this autumn. No matter your height, wear what feels good and what FITS (sounds obvious but we all do it!). Most importantly, when someone tells you you look good listen to them and take it in.

What was your favourite style of the day you wore and why? Did anything surprise you?

I loved everything I wore - It all comes down to the fit and the quality. The best thing about everything I wore on the day was that I pulled it on and didn’t have to worry about a zip going or it being a ‘one wear and bin’ outfit. The quality of the fabric and design mean that every piece is an investment. The outfit I would have chosen myself before even trying was the Lost Ink burgundy maxi dress - which is unfortunately not available yet. I felt like a 70s dream. The biggest surprise was the jacquard Manon suit - I’ve never worn a trouser suit before and I can’t get over how differently it makes you feel - Even my posture changed. I’m definitely going to be investing in suiting-up this season.

What was your favourite piece on your fellow bloggers?

It was fabulous seeing Becky in so many different dresses. The embroidered Junarose dress with her hair was an absolute mod dream, so femme but still so cool. Chloe looks fierce in everything I’ve ever seen her wear but those Levi’s jeans were MADE for her body shape, I couldn’t stop admiring them.
